The Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) has entered into a partnership with the Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet to accelerate the deployment of clean energy solutions in India. The signed statement of intent aims to unlock targeted investments and provide technical expertise on emerging technologies in response to rapidly rising energy demand and India’s carbon neutrality target by 2070.
A grid under pressure, solutions expected
The massive development of renewable energy in India is placing growing pressure on the national grid’s stability. To address the variability of sources such as solar and wind, the partnership focuses on Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and intelligent grid management. These technologies are considered essential to ensure a reliable, continuous and cost-effective power supply, particularly in regions with fast industrial growth.
The project also provides support for implementing innovative configurations such as Round-the-Clock (RTC) renewable power and Firm and Dispatchable Renewable Energy (FDRE), developed by SECI. These approaches help stabilise supply and meet the growing demand for electricity, including in underserved areas.
Focus on innovation and risk management
Beyond renewable integration, the partnership includes a broader energy transformation plan based on system modelling, forecasting and analysis. Cooperation also covers energy efficiency, demand-side management, and digital solutions such as asset mapping and data analytics.
Distributed Renewable Energy (DRE) and storage technologies are among the investment priorities. Projects validated through joint studies or pilots will be implemented through public tenders to select technical players capable of delivering industrial-scale execution.
Shared goals to support energy security
Both entities state their intention to combine capabilities to deploy innovative financial mechanisms and reduce risks linked to emerging technologies. SECI’s leadership has declared that this alliance will support the organisation’s role as a key operator in India’s renewable expansion, through advanced integration of storage and firm power capacities.
This partnership builds on Global Energy Alliance’s ongoing digital initiatives, including the Digitalization of Utilities for Energy Transition (DUET) programme, aimed at modernising state-level energy transition planning.
