Orano is hardening its stance against Niger in the dispute over uranium extracted by Société des mines de l’Aïr (Somaïr). The chairman of the French group’s board of directors, Claude Imauven, told French parliamentarians he is prepared to sue the Nigerien state as well as any party seeking to acquire the stock of uranium concentrate currently stranded. The company, formerly holding 63.4% of Somaïr, contests the expropriation decided by Niamey authorities.
