Japanese group Mitsui & Co and its partners are considering using smaller turbines and delaying construction start for their offshore wind project located off Murakami-Tainai, in Niigata prefecture in northern Japan. The consortium, which also includes Germany’s RWE and Osaka Gas, obtained development rights for this 684-megawatt (MW) farm in 2023. This revision comes amid sharply rising development costs, a phenomenon observed across global offshore wind projects.
