IISD Calls on Canada to Accelerate Transition to Wind and Solar

Russia's invasion of Ukraine has caused oil and natural gas prices to surge, fueling inflation and raising the cost of living for Canadians. This geopolitical shock has challenged the notion that Canada's abundant hydrocarbon reserves provide an effective shield against energy market turbulence. According to Nichole Dusyk, Senior Policy Advisor at the International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD), renewable energies offer a more robust alternative. "Switching to renewables will not entirely eliminate politics, but it does limit exposure to commodity markets and geopolitical factors," she states.
