The Dangote refinery, the largest on the African continent with a capacity of 650,000 barrels per day (bpd), announced Sunday that it had begun exporting fuels to several sub-Saharan African countries. The group sold 12 cargoes totalling 456,000 tonnes of fuel to Côte d'Ivoire, Cameroon, Tanzania, Ghana and Togo, according to an official statement. The decision comes amid turbulence on global oil markets: since the strikes on Iran on February 28, oil prices have risen sharply, disrupting global fuel supply chains. A refinery spokesperson confirmed to AFP that the export decision was made "primarily because of the war in the Middle East".
