In Thailand, the surge in untaxed diesel prices — locally called "green oil" — is gradually paralyzing the fishing industry. This fuel, reserved for maritime professionals, has risen from around 20 baht per liter to nearly 35 baht, a spike that industry stakeholders link to the Middle East conflict. The Thai Fishing Industry Federation estimates that more than 1,000 boats, out of a total fleet of 9,000 vessels, are already idle. Half the fleet could soon be grounded if prices do not recover.
