Against the backdrop of a Middle East crisis, the French government convened fuel distributors on March 12, 2026 to enact immediate responses to volatile oil markets. At the request of the Republic's president, France took the initiative to organize urgent G7-level meetings at three tiers: Finance, Energy and heads of state. This diplomatic mobilization yielded, in close coordination with the International Energy Agency (IEA), a coordinated decision to release up to 400 million barrels from strategic petroleum reserves.
