French group Engie has inaugurated one of Europe’s largest battery parks in Vilvoorde, Belgium. This facility aims to store renewable electricity to meet grid demand fluctuations.

Engie has inaugurated a battery storage park on the site of a former coal-fired power plant in Vilvoorde, in the industrial suburbs of Brussels. The infrastructure, commissioned in late 2025, spans 3.5 hectares and comprises 320 Chinese-designed lithium-ion battery containers. According to the group, this facility offers a storage capacity of 800 megawatt-hours (MWh).
