Taoke energy has signed a contract with CATL for the supply of 300 MWh of batteries, which will be used in the company’s grid-scale energy storage systems (ESS) projects in Japan throughout 2025. This agreement follows a previous contract of 350 MWh signed in 2024. The partnership, finalized during the World Smart Energy Week in Tokyo, marks a strengthening of the relationship between the two companies in a rapidly growing sector.

Since 2023, Taoke energy has focused on developing high-voltage energy storage solutions for Japan’s electrical grid. The company has seen significant growth in this market, responding to the increasing demand for energy storage solutions that stabilize the grid as renewable energy sources grow. This trend is reflected in the rising number of ESS projects developed across the country.

Rapid Growth of ESS Projects in Japan

The Japanese grid-scale energy storage market has experienced rapid expansion in recent years, driven by increasing investments and a growing need for infrastructure to manage renewable energy intermittency. To date, Taoke energyhas developed 24 ESS projects in Japan, 11 of which are self-funded. These projects contribute to the stability of Japan’s power grid, storing excess energy produced by renewable sources and redistributing it during peak demand periods.

The company plans to continue its development strategy by combining self-investment and partnerships with other market players. This approach enables it to diversify its projects and maximize opportunities in an increasingly competitive sector.

A Strong Partnership with CATL

CATL, the battery supplier for Taoke energy’s ESS projects, has played a key role in the success of these projects by providing safe and reliable batteries. As part of this agreement, CATL has made commitments regarding pricing and delivery schedules, ensuring that Taoke energy will have a steady supply for its upcoming projects. This strategic partnership between the two companies is expected to strengthen as the Japanese renewable energy market continues to expand.

Taoke energy and CATL plan to continue exploring new opportunities in Japan, leveraging their respective strengths to meet the growing demand for energy storage solutions.
