100% renewable electricity thanks to this solar power plant
Under the agreement, the 590 MW Francisco Pizarro solar power plant will supply nine Bayer sites in Spain. Including three plants and nine Bayer sites in Spain. This project, located between the Extremadura municipalities of Torrecillas de la Tiesa and Aldeacentenera, is the largest in Europe. The agreement will be effective in 100% of these centers starting in 2022 and for a period of ten years. Iberdrola’s international account manager Eduardo Insunza, said:
“PPAs open up many opportunities for the development of renewable energy projects that transform the present and future of energy in our country while contributing to the transition to a green economy. These long-term power purchase agreements provide stability to company investments. They have also become an optimal tool for managing the electricity needs of large consumers committed to a clean and sustainable supply.”
An environmental and economic success
This EIA-approved solar power plant will produce enough energy to power a population equivalent to 375,000 people per year. That is more than the population of the cities of Càceres and Badajoz. From 2022 onwards, the plant will be freed from emitting 245,000 tons of CO2 each year.
Estimated at 300 million euros, this project will also help reactivate employment in the community, thanks to the participation of more than 1,000 professionals.
Bayer turns to green energy
Bayer already had a clean energy purchase agreement with Iberdrola.
In Mexico for the 105 MW Santiago onshore wind farm, located in the state of Guanajuato. Bayer is therefore continuing its efforts in the area of energy transition. The latter announced at the end of last year that it was committed to achieving carbon neutrality by 2030 according to Capital Madrid.
