Energy developer rPlus Energies has acquired two major solar and storage projects in Ada County, Idaho, representing a combined capacity of 900 megawatts (MW). The transaction covers the Blacks Creek Energy Center and Bluebird Solar sites, acquired from Qcells and Mission Clean Energy, respectively.
A strengthened portfolio in a growing market
Blacks Creek Energy Center consists of 400 MW of solar capacity and an additional 200 MW of storage. Bluebird Solar includes 200 MW of solar and 100 MW of storage. Commissioning of the two projects is scheduled for 2027 and 2028. These acquisitions add to an already active portfolio in the county, where rPlus Energies is involved in several developments.
The company already operates Pleasant Valley Solar 1, in which it holds a minority stake, and is currently developing Pleasant Valley Solar 2, a fully owned project. Collectively, the four developments represent more than 1.2 gigawatts (GW) of capacity and over $1.4bn in planned investment.
Regional ambitions supported by targeted investments
With its regional office in Boise, rPlus Energies is confirming its strategy of local anchoring in growth territories. The company targets markets with increasing energy demand, combining solar generation with large-scale storage systems. This approach helps address grid stability and power supply challenges in the region.
Legal aspects of the transaction were managed by Latham & Watkins LLP for the acquisition of Blacks Creek Energy Center, and by Dorsey & Whitney LLP for Bluebird Solar. The specific financial terms of each deal were not disclosed.
A dynamic driven by local and industrial demand
Company executives highlight the growing energy demand in the Treasure Valley region as a key development driver. Ada County is experiencing rapid demographic expansion, reinforcing the strategic importance of these projects. Developing large-scale energy infrastructure is central to enhancing the region’s economic attractiveness for industrial and commercial players.
