Plug Power Inc., in collaboration with Olin Corporation, is set to launch a new hydrogen plant in St. Gabriel, Louisiana, in the first quarter of 2025. This facility, operated by the Hidrogenii joint venture, will utilise hydrogen co-produced in Olin’s chlorine manufacturing process.
Increasing production capacity
Once operational, the plant will add 15 tons per day to Plug Power’s total production, bringing its overall capacity to 39 tons per day. This expansion aims to meet the increasing demand from major partners such as Amazon and Walmart while strengthening Plug Power’s strategy of providing vertically integrated hydrogen solutions.
Commitment to safety
The project has recorded over 412,000 safe working hours without incident, demonstrating a strong commitment to process safety management standards. A critical dry-out process is underway to remove moisture and impurities from the plant’s systems, ensuring the production of high-purity hydrogen.
Expanding the North American network
The plant will operate continuously, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, with optimised processes inspired by operations at the Woodbine facility in Georgia. This infrastructure is part of a broader strategy to build a reliable hydrogen network across North America, ensuring better energy independence and a more stable supply for industrial customers.
