Everfuel and Crossbridge Energy announced that they have signed a long-term agreement. It determines the terms of the hydrogen supply for one stage of the HySynergy project, currently under development. This is a major milestone for the smelter, which is expected to reach a capacity of 300 MW.
Everfuel and Crossbridge Energy launch the second phase of HySynergy
Everfuel and Crossbridge Energy have approved commercial terms for the first stage of the HySynergy smelter development. Three stages make up phase two of the development, corresponding to three sections of 100 MW capacity. Section A is expected to produce up to 40 tons of renewable hydrogen per day.
The Crossbridge Energy refinery will use this hydrogen to produce more sustainable fuel. It is also intended for the mobility and industrial sectors as a zero-emission fuel. Jacob Krogsgaard, CEO of Everfuel, welcomes the agreement with Crossbridge Energy:
“The long-term agreement on commercial terms with Crossbridge Energy is an important element for the HySynergy Phase II development project. We share a strong partnership and look forward to continuing our collaboration on the construction of a large-scale PtX facility that will be a game changer for the energy transition in Denmark. Before that, of course, we look forward to starting operations of the Phase I electrolysis facility later this year and delivering the first green hydrogen to our partners and stations.”
Decarbonizing mobility and industry
The first phase of HySynergy, a 20 MW electrolyser, is already under construction near the refinery. As a result, it should produce its first renewable hydrogen by the end of the year. The land dedicated to Phase II is also delineated and prepared for construction, subject to IPCEI funding.
Thus, the second phase of HySynergy should be operational in 2025. According to Everfuel, it would facilitate an annual reduction of 500,000 tons of carbon emissions from the mobility and industrial sectors. The two partners also plan to develop other agreements for oxygen supply and excess heat management.
Finn Schousboe, CEO of Crossbridge Energy, concludes by highlighting his company’s environmental goals:
“Hydrogen is the key to unlocking the full potential of green fuels. With Crossbridge Energy’s refinery and Everfuel’s HySynergy project, we are taking a big step toward more sustainable fuels. As a first step, we will replace hydrogen from fossil fuels with renewable hydrogen at our refinery, but we are also beginning the next step in the Danish PtX journey.”
