Energy group Eren has formalised a strategic alliance with French company Acacia to develop a portfolio of Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects exceeding 500 megawatts (MW) in France. The partnership includes around 200 MW of projects set to begin construction shortly, and over 300 MW in advanced development.

A portfolio entering execution phase

According to details provided by law firm Jeantet, which advised Acacia on the transaction, Eren will support the final stages of development for the initial projects, including commercial structuring and construction financing. No implementation timeline has been disclosed, but a significant portion of the portfolio is expected to move into deployment in the near term.

Founded in 2022, Acacia specialises in storage projects in France. The company was established by Julien Isambert, an entrepreneur active in the energy sector, and Green Tower, an investment and development firm focused on energy infrastructure. The partnership with Eren aims to strengthen project execution capabilities through shared technical and financial resources.

Strengthening the French electricity grid

The joint platform aims to become a key player in stand-alone storage and grid support across France. All projects within the alliance are based on independent storage systems, designed to operate autonomously without being directly coupled to a generation unit.

The 500 MW capacity represents a notable volume in the French storage landscape, where installed capacity continues to grow. Specific site locations and details of long-term financing arrangements have not been disclosed.

“This alliance aims to build an independent storage player capable of addressing the challenges of grid flexibility and stability,” Jeantet stated in a release issued on June 6.
