Emeren, a leading solar project developer, has announced the successful sale of a portfolio of five state-of-the-art battery energy storage systems (BESS) in Italy to Matrix Renewables. This transaction represents a major milestone in the Development Services Agreement (DSA) signed in June, which provided for the ambitious development of a 1.5 GW BESS portfolio.

Innovative storage capacity

The five projects included in this transaction are equipped with state-of-the-art autonomous storage systems, with a total capacity of 3,787 MWh. The strategic location of the entire portfolio in Italy’s southern Puglia region considerably strengthens the region’s energy infrastructure.

Ready-to-build by the end of 2024

Ready-to-build status should be achieved by the end of 2024, demonstrating Emeren’s commitment to meeting its growth targets. Yumin Liu, CEO of Emeren Group, emphasized the importance of this transaction for the company and the renewable energy sector in Europe. He also expressed his satisfaction with the growing collaboration with Matrix Renewables.

Commitments to Renewable Energies

Chris Matthews, Managing Director for Europe at Matrix Renewables, also expressed his satisfaction with the transaction and underlined the company’s commitment to promoting renewable energy in Italy. The acquisition of this 410 MW BESS portfolio makes a significant contribution to Matrix Renewables’ mission to reshape the energy landscape and strengthen the resilience of the electricity grid.
