DTEK, through its European subsidiary DRI, continues to expand its renewable energy portfolio in Romania with a new 60 MW solar park project in Glodeni, MureÈ™ County.
This development is part of a strategy to strengthen renewable energy production capacity in a key Eastern European market.
The Glodeni II project, which will be adjacent to the operational 53 MW Glodeni I solar park, will increase DTEK’s total generating capacity in Romania to 299 MW.
Scheduled for commissioning in summer 2025, the facility is estimated to generate 86.4 GWh per year, meeting the energy needs of over 22,400 households and reducing CO2 emissions by 21,800 tonnes annually.

Strategic partnership and technical expertise

The development of Glodeni II is based on a strong partnership with Finas Group, already involved in the initial phase of the project.
Finas Group was responsible for acquiring the land and obtaining the necessary permits, enabling DRI to focus its resources on engineering, supply chain management and construction supervision.
This project completes an already significant portfolio, including a 60 MW wind farm in Ruginoasa, as well as a 126 MW solar project in Văcărești.
DRI aims to reach an installed capacity of 1 GW in Romania by 2030.
With several projects underway, the company is showing sustained momentum in the development of critical energy infrastructures for the region.

Implications for Romania’s energy sector

This new investment by DTEK comes at a time when Romania is seeking to diversify its energy sources and increase the share of renewables in its energy mix.
The increased capacity provided by Glodeni II will help to stabilize electricity supply and meet the country’s energy transition objectives, without neglecting the importance of reliable, sustained production for the grid.
John Stuart, CEO of DRI, underlines the strategic importance of this project for Romania, a country with considerable renewable energy potential.
DTEK’s proven partnership with Finas Group ensures that the project is well positioned to meet the technical and commercial challenges of this market.
The choice to develop this additional solar park at Glodeni also reflects a long-term vision, aimed at leveraging existing infrastructure to maximize operational efficiency and minimize development costs.
By handing over the project to DRI, Finas Group is now focusing on new projects, while DTEK continues to assert its presence in a rapidly changing market.
