CSV Midstream Solutions confirmed the commercial start-up of its Albright sour gas processing facility, with a capacity of 150 MMcf/d (million cubic feet per day), located in northern Alberta. As the first installation of its kind built in the province in more than thirty years, it represents a significant development in Canada’s midstream natural gas infrastructure. The plant is situated in the Montney basin, one of the country’s main unconventional hydrocarbon extraction hubs.
Unprecedented sulphur recovery technology
The Albright plant integrates a sulphur recovery technology in a configuration never before applied in Canada, enabling high levels of performance and reliability while reducing the process’s energy intensity. The design focuses on industrial efficiency, with flexibility tailored to the growing needs of the market.
Chris Dutcher, Vice President of Corporate and Business Development, stated that the Albright commissioning represented “a major achievement for CSV and a concrete response to the growing demand for sour natural gas processing in the region.” He highlighted that the facility provides essential services to producers amid rising sulphur prices and the ramp-up of the LNG Canada project.
A scalable model for future projects
The technical model implemented at Albright now serves as a reference for other CSV sites, notably Gold Creek, a 150 MMcf/d plant approved by regulators and currently in the planning phase. The company is also advancing the development of Valhalla 2, a new greenfield facility adjacent to its existing Valhalla site. This upcoming infrastructure will adopt an acid gas injection process instead of sulphur recovery.
Daniel Clarke, Chief Executive Officer of CSV Midstream Solutions, indicated that the company plans to increase Albright’s capacity through ongoing operational optimisations. He added that CSV has a strong portfolio of greenfield projects and brownfield expansions to support the growth of its midstream platform in collaboration with regional producers.
