Amazon has announced the signing of a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with CleanMax, a leading renewable energy player in Asia backed by Brookfield. This agreement involves the development and operation of a 100 MW wind farm in India. The electricity generated will be fed into the national grid and used to meet the energy demands of Amazon’s operations in the country.
A Strategic Project for CleanMax
CleanMax will oversee the development and management of this wind farm. According to estimates, the site is expected to generate approximately 355 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) per year once operational, with commissioning scheduled for the second quarter of 2026. The agreement strengthens CleanMax’s position in the energy market for the Commercial and Industrial (C&I) sector, where demand for sustainable power solutions is growing significantly.
The Rising Trend of Power Purchase Agreements
This partnership reflects a growing trend among major technology companies to secure their renewable energy supply through long-term PPAs. More and more digital industry players are investing in such solutions to stabilize energy costs and diversify their electricity sources. Amazon has been expanding its commitments to similar projects worldwide, particularly in Asia, where renewable energy infrastructure development is accelerating.
Implications for India’s Energy Market
India continues to attract significant investments in the wind energy sector, benefiting from a favorable regulatory framework and considerable natural potential. Connecting CleanMax’s wind farm to the national grid aligns with the country’s strategy to expand its renewable energy capacity. This growth is driven in part by partnerships between private companies and specialized producers, fostering new energy supply models.
