Independent power producer VSB France has announced the commissioning of the Eoliennes de Fadoumal wind farm, located in the municipality of Arzenc-de-Randon, in Lozère. The site comprises six Enercon E82 turbines, each with a rated capacity of 2.3 MW, for a total of 13.8 MW. VSB France was responsible for the full development, construction and operational management of the site.
The estimated annual output is expected to supply electricity to over 13,000 inhabitants. Built at an altitude of 1,420 metres, the location led to several construction interruptions during the winter due to challenging weather conditions. This altitude constraint significantly impacted the project’s logistical and technical phases.
Technology adapted for avifauna protection
The entire wind farm is equipped with a patented avifauna detection system (SDA) provided by European supplier BIOSECO. This system activates a light deterrent followed, if necessary, by a temporary turbine shutdown as long as a bird is detected in the risk zone. The SDA is designed to minimise impact on birdlife while maintaining overall power generation efficiency.
The project presents a dual specificity: its location in a forested area and its high-altitude setting. These factors shaped the technical decisions made during the early planning stage. The avifauna equipment was integrated from the outset to address local environmental constraints.
Regional expansion of VSB’s portfolio
With the commissioning of the Eoliennes de Fadoumal wind farm, VSB France now exceeds 50 MW of installed capacity in the Occitanie region, both owned and operated on behalf of third parties. This development is part of the group’s regional deployment strategy, focusing on sites with complex topographical conditions.
The company plans to continue expanding its asset base in France. Parent company VSB Gruppe confirmed its intention to maintain targeted investment in technically demanding projects as part of its strategy to strengthen its European market presence.
