Ecopetrol S.A. announced the closing on November 13 of its acquisition of solar energy assets in Colombia from Statkraft European Wind and Solar Holding AS. The deal includes the purchase of one management company and six special purpose entities holding approximately 0.6 gigawatts of solar projects. The total value of the transaction is $157.5mn.
The acquisition was financed through incremental debt, integrated into Ecopetrol’s funding plan for inorganic investments. The transferred assets were previously owned by subsidiaries Enerfín Sociedad de Energía S.L.U. and Enerfin Enervento Exterior S.L., both affiliated with Statkraft.
Integration of assets within the Ecopetrol Group
With this acquisition, Ecopetrol now holds 100% of the shares in the six solar entities. The integration of these companies into the group structure is underway, consolidating a renewable portfolio now exceeding 0.6 GW of installed solar capacity. This deal follows a framework agreement signed on May 20 between both companies.
The original agreement outlines the potential acquisition of ten companies in total. The remaining three entities, which own wind projects representing approximately 0.7 GW, are still subject to pending conditions and legal requirements before closure.
Expansion strategy focused on alternative energy
This operation strengthens Ecopetrol’s position in energy production for self-consumption while diversifying its activities beyond oil and gas. It also increases the group’s ability to develop low-emission energy within the scope of its long-term strategy.
The company continues to follow its 2040 energy roadmap without abandoning its core operations. Expansion into renewables is proceeding in stages, based on market opportunities and project profitability.
